Road conditions

Today is Thursday, and the day I normally hop in the car and journey over the water to do office-like things at Studio Foglio.
But yesterday's snow is now coated with a crust of ice, and tiny ice pellets continue to fall, making a wonderful susurration if I was willing to stand there with the door open (which I am not).

So I already called in, and we'll do stuff tomorrow instead, after what is expected to be a solid night of melting.

Saw this just now on the local message board:
"There is a tree across Vashon Highwy just north of Inspiration point.
The snow plow is stuck in a ditch at the corner of Wax Orchard Rd. and 220th."

Hmmm. Snow plow stuck in the ditch. Good call I think!

Stuck in the ditch is almost as good as "rolled & burning in the center lane".

"solid night of melting."

Am I the only one who sees a certain mildly comical disconnect in this phrase?

Glad it wasn't you in a ditch!

My little car isn't snow-worth enough to make it down the road and into the ditch.
I just wait until the stuff goes away. (Here, of course. I had a different car in Chicago.)

Just curious, but how many snow plows do they actually have on Vashon? Snow is rather a rare occurrence, yes?

We are supposed to get 1-4 inches of snow this afternoon, and 1-3 inches tomorrow, and then on Sunday the forecast is for 35° and rain — which means the roads will be slicker than snot. My consolation is that Spring is only 2 months away.

While I'm guessing there is more than one, it wouldn't be *much* more.
And it wouldn't be a dedicated snowplow like the MidWest has - more like a tractor with a blade hooked on the front.
We need tractors ALL the time (falling trees) (and trees that haven't fallen yet, but ought to).

Speaking of falling trees, there is supposed to be a windstorm now that all the trees have been damaged by snow and ice.
