Filters just weren't doing it for me

So I've created a new LJ account, free at the moment, but I'll get it paid up if it seems to be working out.

There are so many authors who now host LiveJournals that I've found I really don't want to try to add them to this account. yes, I've used filters some before, but this method neatly sidesteps the whole "Friends? I've never even met them!" thing as well as letting me compartmentalize the different reasons I read journals.

readerofwriters will eventually list pretty much as many published science fiction, fantasy and horror authors as I find useful. I've scattered a handful there to start.

Any suggestions on who to add?

Do you know that you can set up reading lists on LJ? So you can have one account, and two completely separate "Friends" lists of people to read.

Um, no, I hadn't heard about reading lists.
I guess I should spend a little more time investigating the options already available.

On the other hand, maybe it will turn out to be a useful account for other people too. Not impossible.

It's the only way I can survive LJ, specially since all of our posts are friends-locked. K and I can set up separate reading lists so we don't have to read the same people as each other. I have a list when I'm busy, made up of the people I'm actully friends with. And so on.

sleigh. matociquala. pegkerr. andpuff.

I don't know what your criteria are, but our friends list includes mmerriam and mrissa, who have both sold short stories, although I cannot say that I recognized the names of the buyers. They are each at the beginning of their writing careers.

There are probably others, but I'm not thinking of them right now.

willshetterly. coffeeem. 1crowdedhour. amy_thomson. desayunoencama.

Undoubtedly there are dozens more, but someone else can play now.

LJ Accounts
ccfinlay, kijjohnson, kinzel, mrissa & rolanni

Feeds
emmabull_blog, novel_gazing, officialgaiman, shetterly & skzb

I'm not going to swear that all of the feeds are active.

Do you want me to spread the word that you're looking? Do you want just LJ blogs, or do you want RSS feeds also?

I'll have to think about whether I would want to add feeds. Yes, they're useful. But I can see that quickly tipping into the "waaaay too many posts" land.

What about spreading the word for you? I have 229 journals on my friends list, all but 68 (if I just counted correctly) are mutual. That covers four fairly distinct fannish groups - we overlap on my personal/convention fen group, and the GT group, but I've got a lot of journals I know through the Liaden and Bujold fandoms that you don't seem to link into.

skzbrust is a newer journal, not a feed.

Well, yes, but she'd already found that journal.

Yes, well, you must have (very cleverly) looked at the other journal's info page before making your suggestions. (Unlike me.)
