Power is back on! That was 93 hours without lights, heat or running water.

Sounds miserable, and it was, but we had plenty of warm clothes to wear, food to eat and a town nearby that got power back in 24 hours.

Still, I think we're going to be making a few small changes around here.

Oh, we had plenty of candles, and a large selection of batteries and flashlights. Even a neat little book light that Mike had bought me last year (intended to let one person read in bed while the other sleeps).

But when we moved in here we thought having an all-electric house was, umm, insufficiently redundant. Lack of funds and which direction to add things slowed us from doing anything about it.

Having observed how fast the house cools without the heat pump running, I'm leaning toward putting a wood stove in the family room (where there's already a flue for it), and planning on generator power just for a cluster of uses in that room. Since we're laptop based, shifting equipment there in need would be simple.

Now to shop out wood stoves that both heat well and allow some kind of stove-top for cooking...
