Now that's something I don't see every day

While clicking through bookmarks checking on various favorite webcomics (instead of getting farther on the spreadsheet I'm supposed to be working on), I encountered:

"You are banned. You probably should have been nicer to other people.
But at least you don't have to deal with this terrible site and its awful content, anymore, right? Consider it my gift to you.
(Sometimes this banning plug-in gives false positives. If you've actually been really nice, try again in fifteen minutes or something. My apologies!)"

Quite the mystery, as I've never commented there, and avoid saying bad things about people even in the worst of situations anyway.

It should have just been my reminder to myself to get back to the darn spreadsheet, but instead here I am posting on LJ. NOW back to the spreadsheet (which does not suck, btw, it's just a long picky task).

Can happen by accident, accidental mouse click.

Sometimes people go overboard, like banning entire small ISPs, or for that matter any dynamic IP that will be assigned to somebody else next week. Though that wouldn't be likely to change in 15 minutes, which they suggest their plugin might. Strange.

I think the worst thing I've ever heard you say when someone came up in a conversation and you said "He can be really annoying." I remember thinking "What did he do? Blow up her car?"

Hmmm. And now I can't even remember who we might have been talking about.

LJ occasionally bans someone from a site by accident. We tried to figure it out, and yanno when the cursor crosses a user pic and some choices pop up, one of them is 'ban user'. So if a finger hesitates at the wrong moment, that person could be banned without the site owner knowing about it.

In this case it wasn't an LJ issue at all - just one of the many webcomics I read. I'm guessing from some of the artist's Tweets at the time that he was messing around with the settings for his page, and accidentally banned his entire readership. Oops.

When I checked again about an hour later there was no problem. My amusement was as much at the thought that I would be banned anywhere. I'm very non-confrontational even in person.
