There are a double handfull or so of comics I read through LiveJournal, currently part of my regular Friends page. Sometimes that's distracting, and I would rather have them grouped together away from the journals of the folks I actually know.

But looking through the Custom Friends options, it looks like that is only set up to restrict one grouping of friends at a time, and would need to be reset when I want to see the other groups.

If that's really the way it works, it would make more sense for me to just set up a different LJ account, add the comics to that one, and drop them from the friends list on this account.

Am I missing something?

You can set custom friend filters for different groups, and it's not a big deal to change which set of friends you're reading (at least if you're using the grey navigation bar -- if you're not, changing the group is a little more complicated, but not brainbending).

Under Manage Accounts, click on Manage Custom Friends Groups. On that page, you can set up different groups of friends you want to see in each filter. To change filters, on your Friends page there's a dialogue box which tells you which Friends Group you're currently viewing. It has a drop down menu with each of your groups listed.

Also, if you create a group called "Default View", that's what you'll see at http://alicebentley.livejournal.com/friends (so you can "set aside" comics, photo blogs, and so on).

I have my reading list split three ways: "Default View" and "more" are my two usual reads (the latter for communities/photoblogs/people who don't use lj-cut), plus "cs" which is customers_suck and related stuff (which I read when I'm bored).
