New-to-me norms for job applications

Even though I have it on the best authority that this is the way things work now, I am still thrown by the idea that companies no longer respond to job applications unless they are interested in going to the next step of an interview.

I'm also having trouble wrapping my head around the idea that it's OK to apply for multiple openings at the same company at the same time. But, since one of the job postings I have applied for has three very similar other ones also open, I guess that's what I'm going to do.

Still feels strange.

It's the part where everyone just casually accepts that you're going to apply for a whole bunch of jobs at once that I have trouble getting my head around, mostly because I equate a job application to some level of dedication to actually doing that job.

This mode is clearly out of date. Now the dedication comes only after the offer. I can adapt, but it's been an interesting journey.

Well, with 500-5000 folks applying for every job out there--whether because they are desperate for food & shelter or have to because of Unemployment requirements--well, only bots can handle the deluge. Dedication to actually doing a job? How old are you, anyway (rhetorical)? yeah, whatever. It's a millennial world, Alice! ;)
